THE DANGERS of SAN LUIS PASS BEACH, GALVESTON ISLAND, TEXAS

In San Luis Pass, Texas, on the West End of Galveston Island, there are many potential hazards hidden from those who are not familiar with the area. It is truly a beautiful beach area on the west end of Galveston Island where people can enjoy a nice family day at the beach, some fishing, kayaking and even swimming. Though people have drowned who have been caught in some fast currents near the open Pass, it still remains a place to visit and experience. One of the benefits is the ability to drive on the beach or back off roads to get to a perfect fishing spot. But there are many challenges and hazards you should be aware of in the area. The climate changes throughout the year with high tides, spot flooding and also deep sand. Enjoy your time there but also be aware. If you find yourself in a situation where you need assistance getting your stuck vehicle recovered, Galveston County Off-Road Recovery has a page on Facebook with members that can help.

This video highlights vehicles that have needed to be recovered due to some of these described hazards as well as some examples of the recoveries required on a weekend in July of 2025.
