Enjoy this peaceful driving tour through one of Madeira’s most iconic coastal routes. We begin in Ponta do Pargo, continue to Fajã da Ovelha and follow the ER223 down towards the ocean. The drive starts with rolling hills and terraced farmlands before entering two hand-carved tunnels – narrow stone passages built long before modern construction changed Madeira’s roads.

Right after the tunnels, the road drops sharply into a series of famous serpentines carved into the hillside. Each turn opens up a dramatic view of the Atlantic Ocean, and as we get lower, you’ll see Paul do Mar spread out below us between towering cliffs and the sea.

The descent is short but intense, and once we reach the village, the road joins the main seafront promenade where you can hear the waves and spot surfers along the coast. From there, the drive continues peacefully through Paul do Mar and then climbs toward Estreito da Calheta.
