Cooper's Hawk is one of three Accipiters found in the United States and Canada. The other two are Sharp-shinned Hawk and American Goshawk. Their food is primarily other birds, but occasionally they will take small rodents. They can be found from southern Canada south to Central America. Their numbers are increasing as they can adapt to suburban neighborhoods. This one was thirsty and needed a nice bath.
