History has not been kind to the fabled St. Louis Line of the Baltimore and Ohio. Piece by piece and train by train, the once-important railroading link has slowly diminished. Some places still get several trains a day...but not west of Seymour, Indiana.
Now, four times a week, CSX local J780 polishes the rails, usually running from North Vernon to Mitchell. On January 5th, I chased this train, catching it at a few places, most notable being Big Tunnel. While the B&O is long gone, it's still possible to shoot a train passing CPLs on the St. Louis Line.
