Novel Synopsis:
When I slid the divorce agreement in front of Michael, he was busy texting Grace, not even glancing up.
"Just sign it. My nails clicked sharply on the solid wood table. "While I can still talk to you calmly."
Only then did Michael lift his eyes, his gaze drifting from my new Valentino heels down to the Birkin bag—both bought with my own money. Then he smiled—that familiar, effortless smile I’ve known for twenty years.
" Caro," he twisted his wedding ring, "Is it just because I came home early to accompany Grace to her checkup? At the time—"
"Her hemoglobin was six grams; she urgently needed a blood transfusion. "I cut him off, pulling the hospital report from my bag and slamming it on the table. "Funny, the record I found shows 8.9 grams—just mild anemia."
His expression finally shifted. I'm all too familiar with that microexpression—the jaw tightens for half a second; it’s how he reacts when caught red-handed. The last time was at our wedding, when Grace "accidentally" spilled red wine all over my wedding dress.
"You investigated her?" Michael ’s voice turned cold.
"Investigated?" I scoffed. " You better remember, the biggest shareholder of Central City Hospital is the Li family—it’s mine."
