MQTT uses a publish and subscribe pattern where there is no direct communication between the sending client and the destination client.
This has many advantages but as with everything there is a downside.
One of the common uses for MQTT is in instant messaging type application but they are not so easy to implement in MQTTv3 due to the fact that there is not direct connection between the two clients.
There are ways of overcoming this but the request response feature was introduced to make this much easier and also to make creating web like services easier to implement.
In this video I will show you how the new request response works and demonstrate it using some demo python scripts that you can download below.
