Home Affairs Minister, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi, says legislation must be passed to strengthen the powers of immigration officers, and make training compulsory.
He was briefing the media on the Final White Paper on Citizenship, Immigration and Refugee Protection in Pretoria, Hatfield on Wednesday afternoon.
The policy seeks to provide a framework to guide the granting of citizenship and residency to foreign nationals. Last week, cabinet approved the final paper.
