Model X-1 was a First Generation Cherry powered by the 1171cc inline 4-cyliner OHV A12 engine. With a compression ratio of 10:1 and breathing through twin Hitachi sidedraft carburetors, engine output reached 83 bhp at 6300 rpm.
The ultimate model in the Cherry lineup was the very special X-1R (also known as the 1200X-1R) which was introduced in March of 1973. This one was built for performance with twin carbs, a stripped out interior, and what the Japanese called “over-fender flares”. A fully developed engine was capable of 130 bhp and 8000 rpm which made the 1530 pound X-1R plenty exciting.
