In this video I briefly discuss Gaussian and Cauchy-Lorentz (Lorentzian) functions and focus on their width. There are many different quantities that describe width of the beam or width of the spectral line which may lead to confusion. In this video I clarify this aspect. I also mention Voigt function.
These functions are commonly used in optics to describe the shape of the light beam or to approximate the spectral line.
