The new series "Conversations on Translations," a collaboration between the Comparative Literature Program and the Spanish and Portuguese Studies at UMass Amherst, invites two guest speakers each semester to discuss their work and ideas about translation and multilingualism.
For this edition we are proud to present Marjorie Perloff, one of the foremost critics of twentieth and now twenty-first century poetry and poetics, both Anglo-American and from a Comparatist perspective. This conversation includes a discussion of her ideas on translation as well as of her new book, Infrathin: An Experiment in Micropoetics (University of Chicago Press, 2021), in which she reconsiders the question: what is it that makes poetry poetry?
Moderated by Professors Moira Inghilleri and Tal Goldfajn.
Moira Inghilleri is Program Director of Comparative Literature and Professor of Translation and Interpreting Studies and Comparative Literature and UMass Amherst.
Tal Goldfajn is Assistant Professor of Hispanic Linguistics at the Spanish and Portuguese Studies and co-coordinator of the Translation in the Hispanic and Lusophone World study area at UMass Amherst.
