今回の動画は、南アルプス鳳凰山、2025年の年越し登山の動画です。
投稿時から約1年前ですね。
2024年の大晦日から入山して、南御室小屋のテント場で初めての厳冬期テント泊、そして翌朝鳳凰山の山頂、観音岳にアタックして、山頂で2025年の初日の出を見ようという計画でいきました。
登山目的は無事に達成して、-18℃の中スヤスヤ眠れた＆生きて帰って来れたので、これまでに勉強してきたことが活かせたなと思う反面、心配事が多過ぎて荷物がとにかく重たく・・・ここは改善しなければと考えさせられる登山となりました。
荷物の重さゆえに、動画撮影があまりできず・・・バッテリーも低温でダメになるなど、当時は苦労しました。
この経験が、その後の、厳冬期瑞牆山・金峰山の登山にも生きています。

This video documents my New Year's mountaineering adventure on Mt. Houou in the Southern Japanese Alps — a journey from New Year's Eve 2024 into the first sunrise of 2025.

*The Plan:*

I entered the mountain on December 31st, 2024, and set up camp at the Minami-Omuro Hut tent site for my very first harsh winter (厳冬期) tent camping experience. The goal was to summit Kannon-dake, the highest peak of Mt. Houou, and witness the first sunrise of the new year from the top.

*The Experience:*

The temperatures dropped to -18°C (-0.4°F) overnight — and yet, I managed to sleep soundly through the night. Waking up alive and well the next morning gave me confidence that all the preparation and studying I had done beforehand truly paid off.

However, this climb also came with valuable lessons. Worried about the extreme conditions, I packed far too much gear, making my backpack incredibly heavy. This limited how much footage I could capture and exhausted me more than expected. On top of that, the freezing temperatures drained my camera batteries faster than I anticipated — a harsh reminder of the challenges of winter filmmaking in the mountains.

*What I Learned:*

Despite the struggles, I achieved my goal: a successful summit and the breathtaking first sunrise of 2025 from Kannon-dake. More importantly, this experience taught me how to pack smarter and prepare better for extreme cold. These lessons directly helped me on my later winter climbs, including Mt. Mizugaki and Mt. Kinpu in the harsh winter season.
