Early in the movie, Harry sees a newspaper article with a photograph of the Weasley family in Egypt. This might seem like a small, insignificant detail, but it is actually a crucial plot point in the book. While on an inspection of Azkaban, Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic, had a copy of that paper and gave it to Sirius Black, who wanted to do the crossword puzzle. Sirius immediately recognized Peter Pettigrew/Wormtail disguised as Scabbers, realizing that his traitorous friend was still alive, so he resolved to take revenge on him. Since the Dementors did not know that Sirius was an animagus and couldn't sense animal thoughts, Sirius escaped by transforming into his dog form.
