► THIS VIDEO will explore the intricate world of histology with Professor Geoff Meyer 📚🔬
Professor Meyer starts by dissecting the organization of large glands, providing a unique insight into their inner workings. He sheds light on distinguishing between different types of salivary glands and the pancreas by examining their secretory products, whether purely mucus, purely serous, or a mix of both. 🧪👁️🗨️
Take a closer look at the sections of these glands, and you'll discover how they are divided into lobes and further subdivided into lobules. Connective tissue spaces play a vital role in this division, and Professor Meyer explains how ducts and blood vessels navigate through these spaces to access the secretory units. 🧬🏗️
Delving into myoepithelial cells, which are contractile cells, Professor Meyer illustrates their crucial function in exocrine glands. These cells wrap around the secretory units, aiding in the secretion process and facilitating the movement of secretions into the luminal space. 🦑🔄
In addition to secretory cells, Professor Meyer introduces you to stem cells, highlighting their role in regenerating epithelial surfaces. Stem cells residing at the base of these glands produce various cell types, including secretory cells and surface epithelial cells. This process of differentiation and replacement is essential for maintaining healthy epithelial surfaces in the body. 🔄🧫
As you embark on this histological journey, you'll gain a deeper understanding of the intricate structures and functions of glands and epithelial tissues, laying a strong foundation for your studies in histology. Don't miss out on this educational experience with Professor Geoff Meyer! 🎓🔍
► THE PROF: Your lecturer is Professor Geoff Meyer. He is currently teaching at the School of Anatomy, Physiology and Human Biology at the University of Western Australia (UWA). As a leading anatomy and histology expert he is also coordinating the Federative International Program for Anatomical Terminologies (FIPAT) of the International Federation of Associations of Anatomists (IFAA). Besides medical research on the ovarian function, steroidogenesis, corpus luteum, angiogenesis, and microcirculation, Geoff Meyer’s research activities also focus on developing innovative, computer-aided learning and teaching tools.
