Usually, in Sardinia, these are the days of the Holy Week, days entirely dedicated to the rituals, where multipart singing represents the link between a community and the sacred realm. To sing a cuncordu (four-part singing) is not only to sing: is to serve a community as a whole, sonically defining the space of the ritual.
Cuncordu singing is primarily togetherness, to sing in front of each other, a collective performance of four voices that have to stay close, to breathe the same air and face each other. But this quarantine is forcing us all to revive our habits and indulging us in acts of private, domestic reaffirmation of who we are. This song expresses who these young singers are, even confined in their homes, even in the age of quarantine. [April 7th, 2020]
