5. Mandukya Upanishad | Chapter 1 Karika 1-5 | Swami Sarvapriyananda

Swami Sarvapriyananda teaches one of the shortest and most profound upanishads accompanied with Gaudapada's Karika. This lecture covers Chapter 1 Karika 1-5.

Karika 1:
bahiṣprajño vibhurviśvo hyantaḥprajñastu taijasaḥ | 
ghanaprajñastathā prājña eka eva tridhā smṛtaḥ || 1 ||

Karika 2:
dakṣiṇākṣimukhe viśvo manasyantastu taijasaḥ | 
ākāśe ca hydi prājñastridhā dehe vyavasthitaḥ ||2||

Karika 3:
viśvo hi sthūlabhuṅnityaṃ taijasaḥ praviviktabhuk |
ānandabhuktathā prājñastridhā bhogaṃ nibodhata || 3 |

Karika 4:
sthūlaṃ tarpayate viśvaṃ praviviktaṃ tu taijasam |
ānandaśca tathā prājñaṃ tridhā tṛptiṃ nibodhata || 4 ||

Karika 5:
triṣu dhāmasu yadbhojyaṃ bhoktā yaśca prakīrtitaḥ |
vedaitadubhayaṃ yastu sa bhuñjāno na lipyate || 5 ||
