The Dragon King was born a God of the Seas, but suffered from a skin condition that left his skin scaly and prone to peeling off if he spent too much time out of the water. He received ridicule and scorn from humans for this, which drove him to madness, yearning for revenge on those who had wronged him. Despite this, he would pose as a benevolent aid to humanity, helping humans with droughts in exchange for tribute. To flood the world's surface, he created a machine that would raise the sea level, using a giant, expansive staff called the "Stick" to activate it. When the Monkey King steals his "stick," necessary to achieve his goals, he actively opposes him in order to regain his tool and fulfill his plans, becoming his archenemy.
