The Final Resting Place of Jane Austen - Winchester Cathedral

Jane Austen was only 41 years old when she died on July 18, 1817. During her lifetime 4 of the six great books she wrote-Sende and Sensibility, Pride and Prejudice, Mansfield Park, Emma - they didn t even have her name on them. When she died the entire earnings from her novels amounted to around £650. Jane was buried in the north isle of a nave of Winchester Cathedral. A temporary stone was placed on the tomb until the final one with an epitaph was finished being made.
All of Jane's novels had been published anonymously during her life. It wasn't until after she passed that her name was revealed and she was acknowledged as the author.
The proceeds from her biography paid for a brass plaque memorializing her in 1872 and in 1900 a stained glass depicting different biblical figures each with symbolic meanings related to Jane's life and work was paid for by public subscription.

Evelyn Edwards is a successful American actress and history presenter. She has appeared on such shows as National Geographic’s Hydrogen vs. Hindenburg, Bosch, Criminal Minds, Castle, The Mentalist, Parenthood, The Thundermans, The Kicks, Marry Me, Outsourced, the Academy Award winning film Her, Mimi, and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
Evelyn began her career in opera. She has performed with some of the opera industry’s leading conductors and singers including: Placido Domingo, Valery Gergiev, Kent Nagano, Eva Marton, Vladimir Chernov, Goesta Winburg, and others.
She has had the privilege of working with such famed directors as Oscar winner Maximilian Schell, Julie Taymor, Gian-Carlo Del Monaco, and Lotfi Mansuri during her tenure with Los Angeles Opera. Ms. Edwards made her professional singing debut at the age of 13, operatic debut at 19, and national television commercial debut at six months.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and Master’s degree from UCLA and a Professional Studies Diploma from Mannes College of Music. She and her husband Chris love exploring the world and sharing their passion and love of history, castles, and photography together.
