[TRIP REPORT] Limited Express Saphir Odoriko From Itō To Tokyo In Green Car By JR East E261 Series

The Limited Express Saphir Odoriko operated by JR East connects Tokyo with Shimoda on the Izu peninsula via Atami, Itō and Kawazu. The train is aimed at visitors flocking to one of the many hot spring resorts in that region. Due to the close proximity of Tokyo, the Izu peninsula makes it the ideal short trip getaway for those in living in and around Tokyo.

With the Saphir Odoriko being an upscale luxury train, you can travel in style to your hot spring resort. The E261 Series train features only premium seating, equal to first or business class in Europe and gives the impression that you are onboard of an exclusive train cruise. The train offers regular Green Car seats, private compartment seatings and also Premium Green Car seats.

One of the highlight of this train is the cafetaria car of this train, serving Cantonese delicates with a Japanese touch. Getting a table in the dining car isn't very straight forward, but you can either reserve a table via the "Saphir Pay" app or make a reservation on the spot. Each passenger wil be given a 20 minute time slot to enjoy their meal in the dining car and you can customise yourself a 3 course meal.
