Yesterday Parliament voted through the new Police Crime Sentencing and Courts Bill 2021. Following clashes between police and the public at the vigil for Sarah Everard, these new laws were seen as many to be controversy.
The new police bill allows more lawful powers to police in policing protests. This includes protests requiring start and finish times, banning annoying or disruptive protests and even a possible 10-year jail sentence for damaging a statue.
Both Labour and the SNP voted against the bill, however the Tory majority in Parliament was more than enough to let the bill pass through.
