Value or light, is one of the most important things to consider when planning your painting (if not THE most)! Without light we don't see form! As we all know, there are an infinite number of different lighting situations; from bright and sunny to dark and stormy....from sunrise to sunset, we as artists get to choose how we want to portray the scene before us, AND...we can change it we want to!!!
In this simple exercise, we will learn about the value scale by painting a chart with 10 squares. The goal is to have each square step up in value from the lightest light, to the darkest dark, and then do the same with color. This is not as easy as you might think, but don't be discouraged, watercolor painting takes practice and practice means progress!
