Gut Microbes, FMT and ME - Professor Simon Carding
Recordings of the talk by Professor Simon Carding of the Quadram Institute at a meeting held by Invest in ME Research and the Quadram Institute in February 2020.
The meeting covered the current research programme into myalgic encephalomyelitis (ME). The Quadram Institute on the Norwich Research Park has an established research programme into ME, investigating its links with the population of trillions of bacteria, viruses and fungi that colonise the gut.
The meeting also covered a planned clinical trial into a new form of treatment that targets gut microbes for ME. The charity Invest in ME Research have pledged £500,000 to fund a clinical trial testing the use of Faecal Microbiota Transplantation (FMT) to treat ME, and the research team wanted to gather opinions to inform the design of the trial and interest in being part of the trial. The project team includes the University of East Anglia (UEA), the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital (NNUH) and East Coast Community Healthcare (ECCH).
