In the first edition of Pop's Chops, Pop takes a look at two versions of the Fuel Shutoff Solenoid (FSS) for most Cummins (Dodge/Ford) 5.9 12/24 valve diesel engine with a P7100 (P-Pump).
Pop purchased his aftermarket FSS from Ebay (He calls Evilbay) way back in March of 2023. In his research, he found that most of the older 12 valve Cummins 5.9 owners have switched to a manual push/pull cable.
However, Pop's married to the wonderful woman he married when he was 21 years old. She's like a cowgirl. When she gets on the horse, she wants to kick it in the ribs and and it's supposed to GO! Simply. Easily. Like a trained animal.
Well, his new Fummins, affectionately named "The Beast," was not starting and staying running. Pop had to open the hood of the F350, and push the solenoid up to the hold position manually. This would be a no-no for his sweet wife.
Meanwhile, Pop is somewhat of a traditionalist. He wants equipment to run the way they're designed to run. So, what's the problem, you say???
An OEM FSS can cost over $700.00!!!!!
So, Pop got really mad and started investigating where he could find the cheapest authentic OEM FSS. After searching high and low, he found one for an unbelievable price of $75.00 (Yes, seventy-five dollars!) From POORMANSDIESEL.COM (check them out!!!)
So, in this video, you will find the difference OEM can make.
