Two Michaelmas songs after Alida Grönlund from Vilhelmina and Maria Rehnman Lundekvist from Lycksele, both in Lappland, together with a love song after candidate Nordenman from Södermanland.
Michaelmas, on the 29th of September, marked the shift from summer to winter in the old farming society. The animals were brought in, people celebrated with harvest feasts and a holiday week for the hired workers who could then end their contract in order to move and look for a new position. Michaelmas songs originate from this important day for the young
people, which offered the possibility of a new and better life, but could also mean an upsetting time of separation from a sweetheart.
