Beauty In A Bottle: The Hearach 1st Release & Oloroso Matured 2nd Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The Isle of Harris Distillery was built back in 2015, and while they likely could have released their first Single Malt Scotch Whisky back in 2018 or 2019 they made the decision to wait until the spirit was ready. Our first impression from the Isle of Harris was not going to be a 3 year old whisky who's beauty was only surface level and what it could be in the future. In the fall of 2023 The Isle of Harris released it's first whisky, The Hearach 1st Release Single Malt Scotch Whisky made with whisky that is a minimum of 5 years old. The Hearach was aged in a unique combination of casks including Buffalo Trace & Heaven Hill Bourbon Casks, Oloroso Butts & Fino Sherry casks. The Isle of Harris The Hearach Single Malt Scotch Whisky is brought to us with integrity with no colour added, no chill filtration and bottled at 46%. What truly impressive is that the liquid inside this bottle was able to keep up with the expectations set but such an impressive bottle and packaging design. I have been taking my time since the summer getting to know The Hearach, my batch being the 0000423 and it's a beautifully put together whisky. As I was preparing to review the Inaugural release the Isle of Harris released their 2nd whisky, The Hearach Oloroso Cask Matured Single Malt Scotch Whisky. This 2nd release built on top of alot of the same fundamental building locks that made the 1st Release a success. The big difference is that this one is fully matured in Oloroso Butts and that this Single Malt Scotch Whisky is 6 years old rather than 5. Both whiskies are peated to between 12-15 PPM.
