Sorry about the lousy video, nasty QRM from the wireless router.
It would be nice if I knew how to fade videos in and out it would be nice to splice and eliminate sections.
In my video • TGE N8XJK Boost Regulator
in the beginning of that video I wanted to show the swr and power output, some had questions about the antenna attached to the metal ammo box if it reduced power and increase swr. The answer is no it doesn't. I show in that video the swr power meter hooked up in between the antenna and metal ammo can. the swr is flat and the power out was 35 on uhf and a full 50 watts out in vhf mode. 50 watts is not recommended if you are seated that close, I just did it for the demo to show you that the can has no effect on swr or degradation in power.
Anyway, inside the Ammo Can is a Kenwood TM-V7A, homemade volt, amp, watt meter with 3 power pole 12 volt output (12-14vdc) and 1 aux. 12vdc input (12-14vdc).
You can attach a solar panel to the input and it will charge the battery, and a 6 terminal power strip located in the back by the battery, a Bioenno Power Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) Battery Model BLF-1212W.
All components fit nicely in a 50 cal. Ammo can, the Bioenno (LiFePO4) Battery at

Doesn’t go below 13.2 volts until it is almost drained, you get full power out of your radio.
I haven’t drained it yet, what I understand is you can get hours of communications before it is drained, it maintains 13.2 volts until the end. I saw this battery on Ham Nation.
As you see, this complete dual band radio is all self contained, now safety for you and anybody around you I suggest, don’t go over 10 watts.
The antenna maintains an SWR of 1.1 to 1.5 over all the frequencies, yes, it does put a full 51 watts out on VHF and 35 watts on UHF with no power loss, the antenna is a Diamond Mobile Antennas NR22L
Yea, I know, it was for a short time, but I just had to know.
So it is convenient, when your deployment only requires the use of a dual ban radio.
This radio can also be put in cross band repeat, hoist a simple J-Pole in a tree and use it as a repeater for those out there with HTs.
All components except the speaker are attached using Velcro, the speaker has a magnet on it, I can take it apart in less than a minute.
Remove the speaker and meter, unplug the power and remove the radio, take out the battery all done. Isn’t Velcro a nice addition in the shack?
I want to give a special thanks to, James Stewart, W4XDS, for the good audio report with a short QSO.
Sorry again about the video. I have to stay away from the Espresso.
