USS Midway Martin Luther King, Jr. Outstanding Community Service Award Winner: Rafael Castellanos

Former Port of San Diego Commissioner receives the USS Midway Museum 2025 Martin Luther King, Jr. Outstanding Community Service Award for his career breaking down barriers as President of the La Raza Lawyers Association, General Legal Counsel to MANA de San Diego, and as Chairman of the Port of San Diego in 2018 & 2023 guiding the 9 billion dollar Port economy to be more inclusive of all communities with increased access to the Blue Economy for San Diego small and minority owned businesses.

Rafael delivered a healthier community for San Diego and a more powerful economy through the electrification of the Port assets. He helped eliminate tremendous amounts of pollution while increasing the number of containers that could be delivered - a big win for all!

Rafael prioritized efficiency in the Port real estate portfolio and helped usher in the greatest port expansion in recent history - bringing more opportunities for San Diegans with the Chula Vista Expansion.

Lastly, with more development of the Port assets - Rafael delivered more parks and opportunities to enrich our community through he RADY Shell at Jacobs Park and Freedom Park. He delivered a waterfront for the people.
