The racing Harrington modified Sunbeam Alpine Le Mans Silverstone 2013

This is a short video clip of the Harrington modified Sunbeam Alpines for the Le Mans 24 hours in the early 1960's. Racing at the Bentley Drivers Club meeting Silverstone Saturday 10th August 2013. We would like to thank Keith Hampson for his help with this film...

For the 1961 Le Mans race, the Sunbeam Harrington Bodied Alpine driven by Peter Harper and Peter Proctor finished faultlessly and covered 2194 miles at an average speed of 91 mph. It was 15th overall and second in class and was awarded the Index of Thermal Efficiency award.

After a few short months, and to commemorate this achievement, Sunbeam introduced the Harrington Le Mans production coupe. The vehicles were given fiberglass bodies by Harrington, similar to the Le Mans racers.
