The Whizzer Steam Engine (turbine) was made by American Toy Airship Company of Mansfield, Ohio, circa 1923-1940, and sold in the Johnson Smith & Co. catalog.
In reality the boiler is a brake fluid can. A small tube is soldered to the cap of
the can and jets steam out the side to turn a small turbine. This is the
alcohol fired version and there was also an electrically heated version.
Because they are made of sheet metal, these toys often rusted and were discarded.
This toy has had very limited use, the box is a little worn but has the original asbestos heat pad (that's why in the photos the box is closed in an airtight packaging) that was placed under the unit when fired and the original burner is also included.
