How to Replace Battery Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit

This video goes over how to replace a battery on a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit with the 5.7 motor. This should be the same process for any 2012 -2021 (Fourth Generation) Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 5.7 Motor. Most vehicles come with a lead/acid battery, but this Jeep comes from the factory with an AGM battery. With the new technology being added to vehicles, it’s becoming more common to see AGM batteries. The new AGM battery (Absorbed Glass Mat) performs better with vehicles that have navigation, stop/start engines, remote starts, bluetooth, etc. AGM’s have been proven in the toughest automotive stress test to outperform all lead acid base batteries for safety, performance, and durability. Make sure to get the correct battery group size, vented or not for your vehicle which is specified by the manufacturer and if possible try to upgrade the cranking amps. Each vehicle has a manufactured recommendation on the cold cranking amps (CCA) required to start the vehicle on a cold day. If your vehicle comes with a 615 cranking amp battery, you can use a battery that has higher cranking amps if it fits into your vehicle. More power is always better! In colder climates, a battery can last five years or longer, but in hotter climates, a car battery typically lasts only three years. Fully charged batteries should read 12.6 volts or above. If the car is running, the number should be between 13.7 and 14.7 for a properly functioning battery. Some signs that your battery is starting to fail are slow or no cranking, dim lights, unusual electrical issues, and of course a warning light on the cars dashboard symbolizing a battery. Car batteries basically start the vehicle. Once started, the alternator takes over and supplies the power to the vehicle and recharges the battery, but at idle the battery may supply some power to the vehicle accessories that are on. Batteries come in group sizes that are designated to fit certain vehicles. This is something that is predetermined by the manufacturer. This Jeep takes a Group 48 H7 and cranking amps of 715 CCA. Remember it is always a good idea to install a battery with a higher CCA rating since it will usually last longer and provide better performance in tougher climate conditions.
