Beaver Moon ANTENNAE – Builders of the Moment | NOMADslow.tv

As the Beaver Moon rose over Montreal, ANTENNAE gathered once more at NOMAD, not to perform, but to build. This moon, named for the industrious creature that constructs its winter home before the freeze, carried the same energy into our circle: an unexpected surge of creation, collaboration, and warmth after the deep ritual of the Day of the Dead just days before.

The night unfolded as a living construction of sound and shadow. Led by Jason Rodi on piano, organ, congas, harmonica, steel tongue drums, and voice, the ensemble came together like builders of a shared sonic shelter. Carlos Aedo Vaillard shaped the moment in real time through recording and live mixing, while Philippe Mastrocola drifted in midway, his keys flowing seamlessly into the current. Herbert Bayley returned with a euphonium baritone, bringing deep, resonant brass to the mix.

New voices entered the circle: Adley Glémaud on bass and guitar, Adam Howell with a trombone, Bridget Debernardi weaving ethereal foley and vocals, and the luminous duo Eve Sévigny and Doug Short - Violon Up & Electric Cat, blending violin and keytar into magnetic harmony. Humayun Khan took on the steel tongues and harmonica. Patrice Dauphin’s fierce, spontaneous lyrics and soaring vocals grounded the evening in meaning, while his guests brought new textures and energy to the flow. Lucas Rodi, returning for his first session since last year’s Beaver Moon, anchored the music with his bass’s familiar pulse.

Onyx Borysewicz’s flute lifted the air with bright, searching tones, and Alfonso Hernandez, attending his first ANTENNAE, brought a traditional hand drum whose sound seemed to bridge continents. In movement, Catherine Francoeur danced between her past and future selves, while Jeremy Young and Jason Rodi collaborated in a moment of visual poetry, playing with lenses and shadows to dissolve the line between performer and projection.

It was a night of builders and dreamers, of spontaneous creation and shared purpose, a structure made of sound, spirit, and light. Together, we built a moment that could not be repeated, only remembered in rhythm and reflection.

The Beaver Moon ANTENNAE reminds us that even as the cold descends, we gather, construct, and continue, each of us a part of the living architecture of life.
