FIRST 3 MONTHS CREATING OUR OFF-GRID HOMESTEAD / 90 DAY Transformation

Witness the transformation as we went from wilderness to self-sustainable living in just 3 months!

This is the beginning of our homesteading journey in South Africa. This film showcases everything we did during our first 3 months on our new off grid property in the remote Cederberg Mountains. The land was overgrown when we arrived and it completely off the grid meaning we needed to begin with the basic which was building our own bathroom, connecting a water supply and purchasing a fully off grid solar setup to get electricity from the sun. We spent our first night on the land camping in our rooftop tent with our mini van as we leveled out a section and planned for the arrival of our big van. Getting to our land was a bit trickier than expected and after being stuck in the mud we finally made it. We arrived at the start of spring which meant one of our priorities was the garden and getting seeds in the ground to start growing. We begin landscaping our space, building garden beds and start growing our own food for the first time. We also tackle a huge task unlike anything we’ve ever done which was building a roof over our van for shade as the Summer heat approaches - this was a very physically and mentally challenging project but makes such a difference in temperatures as we are still living in our van full time. To help us out with carting supplies and our tough road we purchase our dream farm truck - a 1978 Land Rover Series 3. When things start coming together we add some luxurious additions including a wood fired hot tub from Carbo 3! Our first 90 days have been busy but we are loving the process of creating our little self sufficient homestead in the mountains.
