2001 SeaDoo GTX 951: Wake Jumping & Wear Ring Destroyed 2002 SeaDoo RX DI Final Ride

Aug 10, 2017, Brandon and I were out for a ride on the upper Niagara River. He was on his 2001 SeaDoo GTX 951 carb, I was on my 2002 SeaDoo RX-DI (951 direct injection). While jumping the wake of a slow moving cruiser (at about 3:50) Brandon landed, and his GTX would not accelerate over 5 mph. He checked the pump grate and no debris was found. The GTX engine would rev but the ski would not accelerate over about 5 mph, I immediately suspected a wear ring issue . So after a long slow ride back to the launch he loaded the GTX up and brought it to my house. I found nothing stuck in the pump, and removal of the steering nozzle revealed that the wear ring was completely missing. A check of the jet pump oil found that it was contaminated with water, a pump rebuild kit is on order and the GTX will be back on the water soon.

This ended up being my final ride on the RX-DI, I sold it a few days later. It was a great machine but a deal came along on a 2012 GTX that I could not pass up.
