On this hike we hiked south from the Mt. Tom Reservation Road to Mt. Tom. This north approach to Mt. Tom is the most scenic section of the New England Trail in the Mt. Tom Reservation. The views start 0.6 miles in and continue for about a mile and a half. On the way back, I followed the old Mt. Tom Railroad bed, now a service road to the B-17 Memorial. This was the site of a B-17 crash on July 9, 1946 that took the lives of all twenty-five servicemen onboard. From there I continued to the abandoned quarry and then followed the Quarry Trail back to my car.
