This is a video to show people what I did to make my 1/125 Lindberg Blue Devil Destroyer plastic model kit into a large scale RC model ship. I made this video because many viewers have asked how I did it, in my prior operational videos, of this same kit. My intent is to give you ideas about how to build your own RC conversion by showing you what I did (for better or for worse LOL). So this is not actually a tutorial (more of an internal tour of how I made mine) but I do show you the inside up close and personal so you can get some actual ideas on how to make your own conversion based on my success and failures with this model. To be clear, this was my first RC conversion and I learned on this one, it was my RC conversion Guiney Pig so to speak, so it is far from perfect, I learned on this one and have improved since, so I do not endorse everything I did because if I had to do it over again I would do some things differently. Although I have certainly improved my skills with other conversions since when I first built this model back in 2011, I still am not an expert, I am only an amateur, when it comes to RC conversions from scratch! With that said, long story short, the reason I made this somewhat instructional internal tour video, about an imperfect RC ship, was because of so many viewer requests and many questions in comments about how I made this model. Many people start out with this kit for their first RC conversion but may need an example to help guide them. And this is a perfect kit to start as an RC Conversion. So, I wanted to make this video for everyone that is starting out and for the many viewers that have asked me questions - thus is a chance to show what I tried to explain in my responses for their questions in the comments :-) so for all of you out there that reached out to me or for those of you just starting out I really hope this helps!!!
Just an FYI, I was able to make the video since I am able to get inside of this model and show you without destroying anything :-) Other models of mine, that have had tutorial requests, such as my sinking models, are sealed so I can't really do tutorials on those unless I crack the glued joints open. Doing that would destroy the models in their present states so that is why I have not fulfilled tutorial requests for my many sinking models. If you have specific questions on those reach out in comments and I will try to answer as best I can.
This is a long video so watch what you want, I do a lot of explaining in the beginning and point out a lot of good features and mistakes I made. At the end of the video if you want to see the model running, I do a quick demo, but the model actually broke during filming as I will explain in the video so for a better example of how this model operates at it’s best, please check out my original videos of this model on my channel, @Our Dog Zippy, plus I will have a link to some of those videos at the end of this video.
