A 6-year-old boy was killed and his mother was seriously wounded when they were stabbed by their landlord, who targeted them because they were Muslim amid the war between Israel and Hamas.
Police found the suspect, 71-year-old Joseph Czuba, outside the Plainfield, IL home and took him into custody. Czuba was charged with first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, two counts of a hate crime and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
According to investigators, the suspect stabbed the boy, Wadea Al-Fayoume, 26 times and the mother, Hanan Shaheen, more than a dozen times while saying anti-Muslim sentiments. LiveNOW's Austin Westfall spoke with FOX 32 Chicago reporter Nate Rodgers following a funeral service for the boy.
