The Iris Caddis is the emerger style fly pattern of the Hydropsyche Caddis. We have a lot of these little green caseless caddis in my area and they make a great species to try to imitate. I was scrolling the internet and came across this pattern a couple weeks ago and instantly fell in love with the look of it and the techniques used to tie it. This pattern is a emerger style fly and meant to be fished in the film of the water just under the surface. For me when fishing this fly it will most often be fished as the top fly on the dropper of my wet fly leader.
The squirrel dub used to make the "hackle" of this fly is a cool idea. Make sure you make it buggy looking and brush it out if you need too. You can put a little bit of floatant on the fly to make sure it stays near the top if you feel the need. Most importantly have fun tying and fishing this fly.
If you need and of the materials to tie this fly or other, please check out https://www.holsingersflyshop.com for all you fly tying needs. Thanks for watching everyone!!! -Shawn
