Welcome to Singularity! Today we’re breaking down one of the most mysterious and serious new threats in modern aerial warfare — the Chinese J-35 stealth fighter.
Also called the FC-31 Gyrfalcon, the J-35 is China’s answer to the U.S. F-35, but designed for carrier operations. While its predecessor, the FC-31, never made it to production, the J-35 has taken flight, and it’s turning heads across the defense world.
So how serious is this jet?
First, it’s stealthy — featuring low observable design with internal weapons bays and radar-absorbing material.
Second, it’s carrier-capable, giving China a stealth aircraft that can launch from its growing fleet of aircraft carriers, including the new Fujian-class supercarrier.
Third, it’s dual-engine — meaning more thrust, longer range, and better survivability compared to single-engine designs like the F-35.
Experts believe the J-35 could carry modern AESA radar, advanced sensors, and a weapons payload rivaling Western fifth-gen fighters. And while it's not quite at F-35's level in terms of software or battlefield integration — it's catching up fast.
Strategically, this fighter changes the game in the Pacific. It gives China a stealth punch at sea, and that shifts the balance in potential conflict zones like Taiwan, the South China Sea, and beyond.
