Stephen Fenberg, Walt McRee and Ellen Brown discuss how, when all the banks were closed during the Great Depression, FDR turned to his power player Jesse H. Jones and the Reconstruction Finance Corporation to save the US economy. The RFC was started by Herbert Hoover, a Republican. FDR didn't cancel the RFC because it was started by another party; he expanded it. He understood its power and its capacity to become the nation's lender of last resort when it was so desperately needed. The RFC wound up building the highways, tunnels, bridges, aqueducts, and electric grid we still benefit from today. We are facing many identical challenges today.
