Normally I'm an NYC dweller and I complain about not having enough space to run RC or store RC. During the fall season, wife and I come out to the countryside to check out the beautiful upstate foliage. This time, I took the Carisma GT24 1:24 truggy with me.
This airbnb house we are staying at is situated in the middle of a wooded area. There's no asphalt nearby, but there is gravel. The gravels are not big but they are a bit oversized for an 1:24 truck. Can the GT24 handle this okay?
The ride was bumpy but GT24 was showing better than expected poise. Inside the truck, I had put the stock 8000kv motor back in because the pinion became loose on the notched shaft of the 6000k motor. I did a few things to improve cooling for the motor and the ESC which are located under the protective chassis cover. Previously, I had nano tape covering the entirety of the underside of the ESC, but only half was actually needed. This opened up half of the ventilation holes on the ESC. To allow the truck to have any chance outdoor, it needed the cover to protect the pinion and spur gears. It's a balance between cooling and protection.
On this uneven outdoor surface, I couldn't put the throttle down anywhere close to 100%. But let's be honest, even on a flat surface, it's basically impossible to utilize 100% of the 8000kv motor on 2s. I also didn't want to stress the servo too much with these rocks. There's no servo saver after all.
For today's run, the good news was there's no sign of any ESC cutoff. Everything felt nice and cool. I held the car in my hand and gave it 100% power for a while, and it was also fine. The servo and steering links survived. Nothing got into the gears or drive cups to cause any damage either. The drivetrain felt smooth. The bottom of the chassis and the front bumper picked up some new scratches, but they were the results of having fun. The GT24 was intact for bashing for another day.
I stitched together a bunch of slow motion action shots here. I think the Carisma looked amazing in this environment. I hope to have another great outdoor location to drive the GT24 later on this road trip!
This is Sammy and thanks for watching!
