DIY: 2016 - 2019 Chevy Volt Oil Change and Oil Life Reset - Easy!

I'll show you how to change your oil on a 2016 2017 2018 or 2019 Chevrolet Volt. Easy job to do at your own home. Avoid dealerships and save money!

Supplies and tools:
4 liters, or 4.2 quarts of oil. Easiest is to just buy a 5 quart jug.

Drain 0:38
After the Volt is on the ramps, drain the oil from the oil pan into a container using a 15mm wrench. Once the oil coming out has slowed to a trickle, reinsert the drain bolt and snug down. Do not strip the bolt!
Oil Filter 1:16
Next, use your oil filter wrench and loosen the oil filter. Get ready for a large amount of oil to start coming down around the filter. Quickly loosen the filter with the oil container underneath. Check the oil filter housing in case the old filter's o ring seal stuck to the housing. Lube the new oil filter o ring with clean oil and tighten onto the engine. The filter does not need to be crazy tight. As tight as you can get with your hands is good enough. If you want to, you can carefully use an oil filter wrench to snug it down. Do not overtighten as it can tear the o ring seal.
Fill 1:47
Clean the oil fill area on the top of the engine. This can fill with debris and you do not want that in your engine. Once cleaned, remove the cap and use a funnel to pour in the 4 liters, or 4.2 quarts of oil. Reinstall the oil fill cap.
Oil Life Reset 2:33
Clean everything up, close the hood and back the Volt down the ramps. To reset the oil filter life, start the Volt and select the information screen shown with the "i" in the top left. Scroll up or down until you see the oil change percentage remaining. Press and hold the right steering wheel select button until you hear a chime and the percent resets to 100.

Lastly, recycle your old oil. This can be done at many places including O'Reilly Auto Parts, Advance Auto Parts, and Autozone.
