What order should we read the works of Jane Austen in? Editor John Mullan outlines some of the options for readers in their approach to Austen’s canon and what each order offers both new and old readers of Austen.

John Mullan is Lord Northcliffe Professor of Modern English Literature at University College London. He has previously edited editions of Daniel Defoe's Roxana and Samuel Johnson's The Lives of the Poets for Oxford World's Classics, as well as Jane Austen's Sense and Sensibility and the new fifth edition of Emma.
