Father of fallen soldier receives Presidential Medal of Freedom

President Joe Biden presented the nation's highest civilian honor to 17 people on Thursday, including Khizr Khan, a Muslim-American Gold Star father living in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Khan will be awarded the Medal of Freedom from Biden in honor of his son, United States Army Captain Humayun Khan, who was killed in 2004 during the Iraq War.

Khizr Khan says, according to members of his unit who witnessed his son's death near the base camp they were protecting, that Humayun put himself in front of an approaching suicide bomber. His actions ended his life while saving countless others.
