Join us, Kerry and Clare, for episode 11 of Sow Chatty: A brand new gardening discussion show by two passionate (fairly) new gardeners with unending enthusiasm for their growing spaces and a propensity to enjoy a good natter!
In this episode we share our regular favourite topics of What’s Hot and What’s Not plus share any bargains of the week and if we’ve done anything daft in our garden or allotment this week. We also have a regular Show & Tell feature of something from around our garden in the last week. This week we also reveal the winner of our first ever #GIVEAWAY Keep watching as the winner is drawn live during the episode!
Our Main Event (topic) for episode 11 is Dig versus No Dig. We discuss the principals of no dig and why traditionally digging/double digging was seen as the appropriate way to prepare the ground for a new growing season.
No dig has changed the face of gardening. With high profile, esteemed gardeners such as Charles Dowding and Ruth Stout championing the no dig movement, the popularity of this method has grown and grown. Less effort, higher crop yield, and greater sustainability with less impact on the environment are all listed as reasons to adopt no dig.
In this episode we deep dive into the pros and cons of No Dig and talk about our own gardening styles and Clare gives an insight into why she doesn’t label herself a no dig gardener.
How do you manage your growing space? Are you dig, no dig, minimal disturbance or do you have a relaxed “needs must” approach on a bed by bed basis?
Over the last two years we have become great friends and have been musing for months about starting a discussion show together, as a way of building a deeper connection with our audiences and sharing our joy (and the inevitable frustrations) of the gardening season with you.
Thank you to all who have subscribed and taken this channel to over 1000 subscribers in 10 episodes. We are blown away by the love you have shown this channel. We garden in two very different styles in the UK, in the equivalent US Hardiness Zone 8b growing spaces. Kerry has a full size allotment plot and a generously sized suburban garden, whilst Clare grows in a purpose built vegetable garden based on her working farm.
One of us is a little bit chaotic in gardening style and the other seeks a slightly more regimented garden. I’m sure, if you’ve followed both of our channels you’ll know which is which!
