🤔 How To Harvest Amaranth Seeds #shorts #youtubeshorts #amaranth
Harvest Amaranth Green seeds with these simple techniques.
To harvest seeds, you'll need scissors, a bowl and the vegetables should've dried out, then cut off the flower heads to collect seeds. This one is nice and crispy, squeeze them to release the seeds and the seeds just falls out. You can get tons of seeds for next year and that way save money (start your plants from seeds as transplants from the garden centre can cost £2 to £3. Save seeds from interesting varieties that you love to eat)
If you roll the blooms between your hands and no seeds fall out, that means it's either too late or too early. These are perfect, the seeds just easily fall out in a rain of little Amaranth seeds.
Amaranth is one of those plants that sheds its seeds all over the garden once you have them in your garden and they will self-seed next year.
Now that the heads are harvested, you'll see lots of little flower pieces, the black are the seeds and they are gorgeous. Separate the seeds from the flower petals. The seeds are heavier, so gently shake the bowl and the petals will be on the surface, you can pick them out or blow across to get some of the petals out.... it's pretty easy.
Spread the seeds out to dry some more...leave them to dry out completely before you store them.
Amaranth Greens are always good as a cooked green. Try plant some Amaranth Green next planting season and if you are interested in getting the seeds, they will be on our website.
