From 2022, Air New Zealand launched its "Cabin Refresh Program" for cabin refurbishment. Currently, the airline has completed the cabin upgrades for most of its Boeing 787-9 fleet. The highlights of this refresh include: a new Business Premier Luxe suite with sliding doors, redesigned Business Premier seats (including companion seating options), Premium Economy seats with enhanced privacy, and Economy seats featuring larger screens and increased storage. A new Sky Pantry has also been added for Economy and Premium Economy passengers. The entire fleet is expected to be retrofitted by late 2026.

The overall experience can be described as stunning. The first impression of the new Economy class seats is the large inflight entertainment screen, with excellent seat pitch and comfort. The entire cabin feels high-tech, and the soft lighting instantly creates a sense of calm after the rush of boarding. The inflight entertainment screens are 50% larger than before and are equipped with Type-C charging ports. The cleverly designed small trays are perfect for holding phones or snacks. Despite the significant investment in the new cabin, Air New Zealand did not increase the seat count—choosing quality over cost in the balance between the two.
