Via Francigena 28 (Ivrea -- Viverone)

“Mosquito swarms”

We got some coffee with Alessandra and spent some time in Ivrea with the Via Francigena Association. We walked by Lago Campagna and ate some fruit there as we enjoyed the view. We watched 2 deer walk with each other through the forest branches. We went several times into a bakery because they had the best meringue treats EVER. SO GOOD! Thank goodness Alessandra gave us snacks for the road because there was no places to eat and little to no shade. I was exhausted. It was 2:30pm (hottest part of the day) & we were running out of water. Nick asked for water from somebody in their garden. The man was very sweet and let us fill up our water. Then he asked us if we wanted to eat with them. We ate spicy spaghetti & fruits. We also drank GEWÜRZTRAMINER. We got to Piverone & the town was setting up for the Cena de Bianco. We had trouble finding a place to sleep and I was exhausted. Nick found a campsite which is outside..in the rain..near a lake filled with mosquitos..with no tent. The owner was sweet and let us stay on an abandoned trailer ground so we had some shade from the rain. Nick swept the ground because it was really dusty. We bathed in the lake because I found no sense in paying for a shared shower. The moss scared me so I made Nick carry me around. When we got out, we were literally harassed by the mosquitos. We ran to our home and put on clothes. We played pool & then kids took over our game. We went outside to see the party and danced for a bit. Then we got ready for bed. We drenched each others body's and sleeping bags in bug spray. Our neighbors played guitar. It was beautiful. I was exhausted & covered in bug spray and slept next to the spiders.
