VDJ Recombination - how our adaptive immune system creates antibody diversity

During the development of B Cells in the bone marrow, a process called VDJ Recombination occurs. During this process, developing B Cells have their exons removed and spliced together randomly, creating diversity in the V, D, and J regions of the germline DNA. Also, these regions will be recombined an additional two times to result in even more variety of DNA, leading to even more diversity of antibodies. From this diversity of antibodies, your adaptive immune system is able to have ways of identifying and neutralizing pathogens that it hasn't previously encountered.
