Across Scotland are small country roads called the Old Military Road. These are often called Wades Roads after General Wade who built many of them but the ones in Dumfries and Galloway have a slightly different history to those in the Highlands. I went out walk a bit of the Southern Upland Way near Stranraer where the path follows the Military Road for a short distance.
The Southern Upland Way is a 214 mile coast to coast path from Portpatrick on the West Coast of Scotland to Cockburnspath on the east. For more information visit our website at https://dgtrails.org/southern-upland-way.
