Godin Kingpin 5th Avenue Jazz guitar
Hi, I'm sitting here with the Godin Kingpin. The Kingpin is the later
version of Godin's Fifth Avenue. And what they did is added the P90 pickup.
P90s were fashionable before 1958, when the Humbuckers came out. Gibson
came out with the Humbucker Pickup. Prior to that, the P90's were used.
They have a nice, warm sound. This one is modern P90 and I am informed that
it actually floats inside of the casing on a rubber pad so that cuts down a
lot on the feedback so. This particular P90 has much less feedback than the
traditional P90s.
The guitar itself is a small guitar, very, very comfortable, fits right under your arm, like a beautiful woman. I like that.
It's got one volume control, one tone control so that eliminates a
lot of pressures of trying to find the right settings because it's simple.
Simple sometimes is much better. The body is traditional arch top, it's got
two F holes. The tail piece, the strings attached to the tail piece in a
traditional way that the Gibson's used to make them. The Godin has invented
a different way to attach the strings down here. So if you get a chance to
look at this, that's one of the other features.
The bridge is made out of
manmade material and it's very hard so that gives it a nice, bright sound.
And the neck is, the finger board is Rose wood. Prior from that, it's all
Cherry wood. Very nice sunburst on this one and also comes in the black and
natural finish.
