I Ate Napoleon’s Favorite Sandwich in Corsica, France

What happens when you mix French history with a ham and cheese baguette? You get Ajaccio, Corsica — the birthplace of Napoleon Bonaparte — and the setting for one of my most charming strolls yet.

I start this walking tour along Rue Cardinal Fesch, soaking in the vibrant street life, shops, and cafés of this Mediterranean island gem. Then, I stop at the cozy local bakery A Panattaria di Babbu for a fresh baguette sandwich that feels like something Napoleon himself might’ve enjoyed (or at least approved of).

From there, it’s onto Cours Napoléon for a little summer shopping at Lacoste, a snack run at SPAR, and a relaxing walk back to the Ajaccio waterfront — where the mountains meet the sea.
